The Bulldogs Remain Undefeated as They Power Through the Georgia Classic

The Georgia softball team advances its undefeated season record as it takes down Syracuse 8-2 in the Georgia Classic at Jack Turner Softball Stadium.

Going into this game, both Georgia and Syracuse had undefeated 11-0 season records.

The Orange was the only team with a point on the board until the third inning. The game started out slowly offensively for the Bulldogs. Georgia was able to make contact with the ball, but could not quite make it to first base.

Esther White was the first Georgia player to make it to first on a walk at the bottom of the third inning. From here, Dallis Goodnight and Jaydyn Goodwin were able to make consecutive RBI singles.

With all bases loaded and two outs, Gordon secured two more scores for the Bulldogs, bringing the team up 4-1 at the end of the third inning.

During this inning, Syracuse swapped starting freshman pitcher Sydney Jackson for Julianna Verni.

“We try to embrace the game as a game of figure-it-out,” head coach Tony Baldwin shared about the unpredictable pitcher change. “When you approach it that way, it becomes a little bit less stressful when there is uncertainties.”

This change was not able to slow the Bulldogs, as they had 3 more RBI hits at the bottom of the sixth inning. Included in this statistic is Goodnight, who secured double stolen bases and made it home on Goodwin’s hit.

“As the game moved along, we played better and better,” Baldwin shared about his team. “I think that’s a tribute to the leadership that we have on this team, the character that we have on this team, and certainly the talent.”

Georgia secured the 8-2 win, keeping its undefeated season record and ending Syracuse’s. From here, Georgia will take on Syracuse again at 1:00 pm tomorrow and Utah Valley at 3:30 pm. These games will test Georgia’s resilience.
